Whatu (to weave) is an exhibition selected from a wide range of artists from Hawke's Bay and Tairawhiti, along with guests from Manawatu and Waikato who work with themes of identity and textiles.

There are examples of traditional and contemporary weaving, but the title is metaphorical, weaving people, weaving ideas, weaving materials, weaving new with old, weaving creativity.

Whatu challenges the viewer's perception of textiles in art and design, with a diverse display of fashion, weaving, painting, sculpture, photography, and graphic design.
