WAI - Manga Maha, Awa Kotahi - One River, Many Streams.\

Ceramics. Photography. Video. Sound. Maps. An unforgettable show.

WAI seeks to reconnect the Wairarapa community with its waterways and to advocate for the rivers of the region.

WAI features 80+ ceramic eels 'swimming' in a 1.5 meter long stream sculpted by Sam Ludden.
- A riverscape installation with 400+ objects found along Makoura Stream by Siv B. Fjaerestad.
- A soundscape with Rawiri Ra Smith and Cody Field, including recordings of Antarctica waters by Warren Maxwell.
- A meditative video of a river by Denise Batchelor.
- Large-scale photograms of South Island glaciers by Jonathan Kay.
- An interactive work by Ngatai Taepa held in the Aratoi collection.
- Ceramics by Lisa Donaldson.
- A huge wall map of Masterton's 15 streams by Kirsten Browne and Tony Garstang.
- A display of one of the earliest Masterton-made manhole covers sourced by Gareth Winter.
- A design commissioned from painter Anna-Marie Kingsley.

Sam Ludden - who spearheaded WAI - will also run a pop-up education space with resources developed by freshwater scientist Amber McEwan.

WAI artists and participants: Sam Ludden, Siv B. Fjaerestad, Denise Batchelor, Cody Field, Jonathan Kay, Anna-Marie Kingsley, Lisa Donaldson and Ngataiharuru Taepa, with support from: Gareth Winter, Rawiri Smith, Joe Potangaroa, Amber McEwan, Tony Garstang, Kirsten Browne, and Warren Maxwell; and sponsored by: Creative New Zealand, Riverscapes, Masterton Arts Fund, Trust House, and the 147 donors through Boosted.

The museum will be dedicated to Water with WAI and also Water\way, a second multi-media exhibition, featuring 13 NZ artists, opening April 13th and continuing until 4th August. Curated by Bruce Foster and Gregory O'Brien.
