Ko au te taiao, ko te taiao ko au | I am nature, nature is me.

Nau mai haere mai! Te Papa invites you and your whānau to take part in the official public opening of our new exhibition zone, Te Taiao | Nature. Be part of the opening haka, composed for the occasion and performed by tamariki from across the Wellington region. Afterwards, Rongowhakaata, Te Papa iwi in residence, will welcome our first public visitors into the exhibition with a response performance inspired by Te Taiao| Nature. Once we’ve formally opened the exhibition, we welcome you to view it at your own pace.

Please note: We are expecting queues for Te Taiao | Nature during our opening weekend, but will do our best to keep you and your whānau entertained with performances and activities while you wait. Te Taiao | Nature will be open until 9pm on Sat 11 May to allow as many people through the exhibition as possible.

Dress for the weather! The majority of our morning opening celebration will happen outside (in te taiao!). The event will go ahead no matter what weather we may have, so please come prepared with suitable clothing.

Photography: We’ll be filming and taking photos of this event for Te Papa’s use. This material might be used to promote Te Papa, including in print and online. Please let us know on the day if you don’t wish to be photographed or filmed.
