On June 28th 1969 police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York. This event kicked off the gay liberation movement, and the promotion of LGBT rights within the United States of America, and the world’s first LGBT pride march in 1970.

This had a flow-on effect for in New Zealand with the Homosexual Law Reform Act 1986 that finally decriminalised consensual sex between men, and later the Human Rights Act 1993 that outlawed discrimination including sexual orientation and implied for gender identity & expression. Prior to this, including in 1968, petitions calling for the decriminalisation of homosexual acts were rejected by Parliament.

Christchurch Pride recognises the impact that the Stonewall riots had on the world and wish to commemorate the 50th anniversary with this Gala Dinner at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū.

Tickets are available on Dash Tickets as individuals ($96.25) (we will allocate you a seat) or as a table of 8 ($770).

You will be treated to a 3-course meal by the fabulous White Tie Catering Dept. as well as a cash bar available for alcohol. Upon confirmation of ticket you receive an email regarding any specific dietary requirements.

Doors open at 7pm, with entrées being served at 7.30pm. Formal attire requested.

This is an extremely important occasion and we look forward to celebrating this with you.

Ngā mihi nui.
