I believe there’s many people who are disillusioned by some of the craft markets they turn up to, imported goods, car boot type products, no real craftsmanship, dubious quality and similar products repeated over and over.

I’ve been told many ways to run a quality craft market, charge more, charge less, indoors, outdoors, have more stalls, have less stalls, go online! I’ve even been told that the time for quality craft shows has passed, that people only want to buy cheap or imported goods, but those who love handcraft and come to shop for quality artisan goods tell me a different story…

I know there’s people out there who want to see hold and experience shopping for original artisan-ship handmade with love and, in a quality environment.

The story I hear is that people miss the great NZ Craft Shows of their past and are not enjoying the alternative modern alternative lifestyle shows, The ones with highly commercialised sales techniques and mass produced products.

They want inspiration, entertainment, shows and people with heart and soul that have the feel-good vibe and superb craftsmanship. They want more exceptional handmade items with quality that lasts long after you have forgotten the price!

They miss when true craftsmanship was found all over New Zealand in abundance, when people had the disposable income to pay for quality. When buying handmade meant appreciating skilled craftsmanship with lasting value and beauty.

I believe that people want craft shows that feels good, have great food and where they can shop for outstanding quality. Where the quality can be seen and held right in front of you, rather than being mislead by online photography tricks.

So the bottom line of this story I hear all too often is there are a whole lot of people who feel like they can’t find a reliable quality destination when shopping for quality handmade goods.

Well, the good news is that you can now tell us direct what you’d like to see at Craft & Design Shows and we will then be able to curate according to what you wish to see presented.

You have the power to find quality handmade and the craft markets that you like, taking it upon yourself to support makers by turning up to shop. Share the experience with like-minded friends, and introduce us to amazing crafts people who you would like to offer a quality promotional platform to.

I am super grateful for every person who takes time out to support NZ made quality goods and handmade needs your support now more than ever and the best way to do that is to see it at tactile physical environments, l indoors and in one location for you to celebrate.

Of course, this is how we can appreciate handmade properly anyway to see it in its real touchable pick-up-able glory in front of you, and it also means that you can connect in a real space, with real craftspeople and really good event vibes, while doing the important part of keeping makers and artisans to remaining financially independent, dignified in their chosen occupation an celebrated for their skills.

Hawke's Bay is so lucky, it is one of the last destinations in NZ left with an affordable indoor venue where we can accommodate quality craft people with having to pass on the the often exorbitant cost of stadiums to our makers creators and artists.

We also love the fact that it coincides with Mothers Day, High Tea and a fabulous destination for a Mothers Day gift buying. What Mother doesn’t love the gift of handmade?

Live Musicians/ Kids activities.
What gifts do you love to shop and stock up for? Do you celebrate Mothers Day?

If you’re on my level and you agree that we need to support while doing the important part of keeping makers and artisans to remaining financially independent, dignified in their chosen occupation an celebrated for their skills.
