Hot on the heels of NZ Barok’s Mozart CD comes a programme of beautiful and brilliant classical music for strings.

Join NZ Barok for the launch of our 15th Birthday concert with music from the Mozart dynasty, Stamitz, and Dittersdorf and featuring our very own double bassist Eric Scholes performing a concerto.

Orchestral musician, jazz bassist and baroque specialist Eric Scholes returned to NZ after several years in the USA and Europe. Eric currently divides his time between performing with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Blackbird Ensemble and a nine-piece soul outfit Mister Speaker.

Eric’s move towards historical double bass performance was sparked when he first began playing with NZ Barok in 2014 and was followed by studies in viola da gamba and violone in the USA, Canada, Italy and The Netherlands.

NZ Barok thanks Auckland Council, Dragon Community Trust and The Stout Trust for their support.

NZ Barok is New Zealand’s only period instrument orchestra. Comprising leading baroque specialists from all over New Zealand, NZ Barok performs using instruments and playing styles of the period, breathing fresh life and vitality into baroque and classical masterpieces and lesser-known musical treasures from the 18th century.

“…authentic, classy and spirited performances… I certainly look forward to any future opportunities to hear NZ Barok.” - Tony Ryan, Upbeat, Radio NZ, 17th October 2018

“NZ Barok are a revelation… the distinctive sound of their authentic instruments in perfect balance.” -Theatre review
