We invite you to join us on this rare opportunity to experience the highest level of Māori learning. Te Ahi Kōmau (the sacred fires) will take you on a sacred, spiritual journey of learning and healing like no other.

You will pass through sacred Maori sites, learn ancient native rituals, live among local Maori communities and immerse yourself into Maori Culture.

This 12-day quest begins and is, based at Auckland’s Kawai Purapura Retreat Centre, Albany, includes four days where we travel to the far North of NZ, visiting hot springs, the magical land of Kai Iwi lakes and the mystical beauty of Waipoua forest where we will visit Tāne Mahotu (God of the forest).

We will experience learning in a traditional wānanga of the ancestors and staying at a local marae. We have the great honour of learning from some of Māoridom’s renowned and respected teachers/healers (Shamans) who will be sharing their wisdom and knowledge of the importance of the re-connection of the spirit with the land, environment, and self.

After four days in the nature rich Bay of Islands, we return to Kawai Purapura to continue to consolidate our experience of how we may incorporate change into our lives and practices in a more natural, yet meaningful way.
Throughout the journey you will be working towards a Level 1 and Level 2 certification in the ancient Maori healing of Mirimiri and Romiromi. You will see, hear, and work with tutors that will give you a better understanding of Traditional Maori Philosophies, and indigenous ways of healing that will stay with you forever.

This journey of learning and healing is suitable for anyone without any prior knowledge to Te Reo or Māori culture, and for those who truly wish to expand their knowledge base in the areas of healing and wellbeing, especially for the deeper connection and understanding of Self and all living things around us, the re-connection and balance to Earth, and the Cosmos. To know who you are, where you came from gives you a sense of connection and Oneness.

Components of the Programme:
- Rongoa (healing with native plants)
- Kapa Haka (Traditional movement)
- Mirimiri and romiromi (body therapies)
- Waiata (song)
- Karakia (ritual chanting)
- Puoro (creating and playing traditional musical instruments)
- Haerenga (sacred journey, including marae)

Through all your journeying and crafting you will encounter and experience a new shaping that is compelling and profound.
