In March 2018 Yang Yongliang (b.1980 Shanghai) spent time in Dunedin as part of the DPAG International Visiting Artist Programme.

Trained in calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting, Yang uses digital technologies to explore the intersection between these traditional artforms and his own contemporary position.

Through photography and video, Artificial Wonderland creates a space to examine ubanisation, globalisation and the contemporary relationship to the landscape. Artificial Wonderland include Yang's most recent video series, Views of Water (2018), constructed out of footage of the ocean, rivers and lake shot during his time in Aotearoa New Zealand.

A Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa International Visiting Artist project.
