For nearly two decades, a quiet subtle phenomenon has grown across the planet. Each year, on the last Saturday of April, in 100’s of cities in over 80 nations, spanning 6 continents... World Tai Chi & Qigong Day events have been held around the planet all on the same day.

The event's motto is "One World... One Breath," In Taranaki World Tai Chi & Qigong Day will be held again at Kunming Gardens, Brooklands Park, New Plymouth. Starting at 10am, New Zealand is the first country in the world to kick off the day and people in other countries will join in when their clocks strike 10.

Principal instructor at the Taranaki Tai Chi Chuan Association, Judi Lee has been running a Tai Chi Day class at Brooklands Park for 10 years and the art is about both physical and spiritual self awareness. The Taranaki Tai Chi Chuan Association’s motto is 'strong as a mountain, move like a river' which really summarises the tai chi philosophy quite well - it's about being fluid but also strong.

With a growing interest in this age old practice, Tai Chi and Qigong are alive and well throughout the province provided by a range of teachers and schools. It is the perfect exercise to condition the body, grow the spirit and strengthen the mind for all ages and abilities. Tai Chi is definitely about the journey not the destination.

All are welcome to join the Taranaki Tai Chi Chuan Association to participate in World Tai Chi & Qigong Day with a shared Tai Chi experience, friendship and a cuppa at the Tea House on the Lake, Pukekura Park, after the class/demonstration.
