Join us for a rare screening of the 1983 documentary Women on the Move, followed by a panel discussion with film makers Lisa Prager and Anne Speir, alongside anti-militarist and peace movement activists Luise Brandt and Valerie Morse.

The film tells the story of the 1983 International Women’s Day of Action for Nuclear Disarmament, culminating in a march to Aotea Square in which 20,000 women took part. It includes interviews and speeches featuring wāhine toa from the era, including Grace Robertson, Mira Szaszy, Helen Clark, and Maire Leadbeater.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion facilitated by Sue Berman, Principal Curator Oral History and Sound at Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections.

Women on the Move is part of the Wāhine Take Action exhibition at Tāmaki Pātaka Kōrero - Central City Library, courtesy of Umbrella Films and Ngā Taonga Sound and Vision.
