Jazz Attack 4: Is the quartet line-up of the infamous Jazz Attack sextet, founded in 2016 by band leader Olivier Holland.

Jazz Attack will present you with a very special treat – Finest jazz performed by not one, but two great vocalists – Nick Dow and Heidi Alter – on the same show. They are supported by NZ and International jazz legends Ron Samsom (drums) and Olivier Holland (bass)!

Nick Dow: is an accomplished Auckland vocalist/pianist who has recently released his debut solo album ‘Layers’ and has been recognized as one of the leading talents on the NZ music scene today. He is described as “one of the most current fresh sounds and with his ‘pure as fresh water’ voice, he is now becoming a rising-star song-writer.”

Nick has performed in concert at most major venues across NZ. Through commendable instrumental ability and influence from the greats, Nick excels in musical prowess and is a “must-Google”, or a “must-check-out” for any serious music lover.

Heidi Alter: is the new and upcoming talent on the NZ jazz horizon. She has already performed at CJC (Creative Jazz Club), Auckland Music in the Parks Series and the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club. Her crystal clear voice brings a sparkle to every tune she sings; having also worked as a vocal duo with Nick, the night at Kerikeri Jazz Club promises to be one that will be well remembered.

Olivier Holland: Bassist, composer, arranger, band leader and music educator. Olivier has performed at major festivals and venues in Europe, Australasia and the USA, with artists such as Geoffrey Keezer, (two-time Grammy award, nominated pianist), Terreon Gully, Joscho Stephan, Danny Weiss, Djamel Laroussi, Nathan Haines, Whirimako Black, Stefon Harris, and Doug Lawrence, (Tony Bennett, Count Basie Orchestra) – to name a few. 2017 also saw him perform and present at the ISB (International Society of Bassists) world convention in New York.

He has to date contributed to 25 CD releases, 3 of which are his own projects. His current CD recording projects include ‘GJAZZ’ featuring Geoffrey Keezer, Terreon Gully, Joscho Stephan, Denis Gaebel, to be released late 2018, as well as ‘DOG+1’ which was released in June 2018, winning Jazz Album of the year, in the NZ Music awards.

He has published an article entitled “The Personalisation of Jazz Bass Pizzicato” in the USA magazine “Bass World” in 2016.

Ron Samsom: Drums, is an active performer, composer and researcher in the area of improvised music and his work features on many local and international recordings. Prior to moving to New Zealand, Ron’s career began in Canada after completing a Diploma in Music at Grant MacEwan College, a BMus from St Francis Xavier and a MMus from McGill University. Ron’s unique approach to performing has made him highly regarded in the musical communities here and abroad.

With many ongoing collaborations and projects such as the ‘Samsom Nacey Haines Trio’, ‘DOG’ and ‘Neutrino Funk’, Ron has established a strong publishing relationship with Rattle records and shares a similar goal of producing a rich tapestry of improvised music featuring New Zealand based musicians. Recent performances with visiting international artists include: Marc Isaacs (AUS), Benny Lackner (GER), Mike Nock (NZ/AUS/USA), Barney McAll (USA), Chris Cody (FRA), James Muller (AUS) Jef Nev (BELGIUM), George Garzone (USA).
