The Law Commission will be at the Wairarapa Community Law Centre in Masterton at midday on Friday 2 February for a public consultation meeting on our review of the Property (Relationships) Act 1976 (PRA).

At our consultation website prareview.lawcom.govt.nz you will find a copy of the Law Commission’s Issues Paper: Dividing relationship property – Time for change? Te mātatoha rawa tokorau - Kua eke te wā? The Law Commission’s review is wide-ranging and the big questions we are looking at are:
- Does the PRA always apply to the right relationships in the right way?
- Does the PRA divide property that should be kept separate?
- How should the PRA deal with trusts?
- What should happen if equal sharing does not lead to equality?
- How should the PRA recognise children’s interests?
- Does the PRA facilitate the inexpensive, simple and speedy resolution of PRA matters consistent with justice?
- Does the PRA provide adequately for tikanga Māori?
- How should the PRA’s rules apply to relationships ending on death?

All those with an interest in this important piece of social legislation are invited to come along and share your views.
