Railway Pie… well, no, that’s not them in the photo. That’s who they woulda loved to have been if only they’d been born a bit earlier.

But it gives you the idea… good old jug-band music from the 1920s, as performed by the masters such as Cannon’s Jug Stompers (that’s them in the picture), the Memphis Jug Band and all those other famous names that we never hear about these days.

Railway Pie is a tradition in itself – its roots go back about 50 years and while the personnel has moved around over the years, it’s still a bunch of mates united by their love of blues and that jug-band sound.

The band today is singer and harmonica player Jack Craw, who also a bit of guitar, Terry Toohill, who plays guitar and fiddle, Al Young, who does a bit of singing and plays guitar, steel guitar and mandolin as required, and Garry Trotman, the double-bass maestro who also sings a bit and plays kazoo. It’s all good stuff, so sit back, relax and discover why the good old days were so much fun.
