Make your own poi and then learn how to swing it. The poi was traditionally used to increase flexibility and strength in the hands and arms and to improve coordination. It was swung to the rhythmic sounds of nature. The movements were also symbolic of nature.

Bring your poi to the Hutt Winter Festival night time events and swing along to the music.

Suitable for all ages, families welcome.

There will be two workshops 90 minutes long each

About the artists:
The Māori Womens Welfare League is a group whose main areas of activity are health education, economic development, employment and business, te reo me ona tikanga and justice. The Rimutaka branch, based in Pomare, is one of 160 branches across Aotearoa. We are part of a total active membership of over 3,000 women. The organisation operates entirely independent of Government and has done so since its inception in 1951.
