Over 100 students from The Drama Workshop will come together to tell the story of Pania. The honour and privilege of being allowed to tell this precious story began as the spark of an idea and has led us on a journey. With the wisdom and counsel of the Tareha family of the Hapu, Ngati Paarau, writer Amanda Jackson has carefully crafted this Taonga to reflect the one authentic story of Pania. Far from being the tragic love story, sanitised, humanised and abbreviated, that we thought was the ‘right’ one, there is so much more to Pania, to her son, to her reason for being, and to the meaning behind the creation of the feature of the seascape, Pania Reef.

Our team of creators and talented performers are excited to be working on a piece with the whole of the Drama Workshop - our performers are aged 5 to 15. Partly funded by Creative New Zealand's Creative Communities Scheme - Hastings and Napier.
