One-day Sneaker Making Workshops with Lou Clifton of Shoe School are being held on 12, 13 and 14 November 2018.

These workshops are part of the inaugural Necessary Traditions festival, a celebration of resourcefulness, craft and the re-invigoration of traditions vital to the sustainability of our people and planet.

Create a pair of miracle sneakers by hand in just one day, no machines or glue involved!

Making a pair of shoes is not only a transformative experience, it is a skill that has almost disappeared in New Zealand. Shoe School is changing this by giving you the skills to make your own shoes.

Our sneaker workshop is our most accessible of all, there is no specialised equipment involved and you'll be wearing a pair of shoes - of your own creation - in just one day!

The leather used in the workshops are end-of-line leathers sourced from a shoemaking factory in Dunedin. The rubber soles are end-of-line products sourced from a local designer, with some smaller sole sizes missing in the range that have been sourced from China.

Lou from Shoe School is offering three one-day workshops at The Gym at the Arts Centre Ōtautahi Christchurch as part of the festival.

All materials are provided.

This is a workshop suited for adults only, no children please. Bookings are essential and non-refundable.

Huge thanks to the Arts Centre, Te Matatiki Toi Ora, and Creative New Zealand for supporting the festival and this workshop.
