A two-part workshop on making clay with Tatyanna Meharry will be held on 12 and 14 November 2018.

This workshop is part of the inaugural Necessary Traditions festival, a celebration of resourcefulness, craft and the re-invigoration of traditions vital to the sustainability of our people and planet.

Using locally found raw clay materials, you will combine your own personal mix of clay to create and test three different clay body types. Through this process Tatyanna will share her knowledge of local clay, its origin and its qualities - this is something she has an extraordinarily beautiful and resourceful approach to.

The materials that are used in these workshops are sourced locally in inland Canterbury and are made into refined ceramic materials suitable for making. This practice means that there is an integral connection between the land and how the resources are used responsibly and with understanding.

This workshop is split into two sessions: 1.00pm to 3.00pm on Monday 12 and 1.00pm to 3.00pm on Wednesday 14 November (ie. it is four hours total).

These workshops will run at Tatyanna's studio at 380 St Asaph Street, Ōtautahi Christchurch.

This is a workshop suited for adults only, no children please. Bookings are essential and non-refundable.

Huge thanks to the Arts Centre, Te Matatiki Toi Ora, for supporting the festival and this workshop.
