There’s something for everyone in Bay of Plenty Symphonia’s final concert of 2018. Music ranging from late 18th century classical up to the 1920s encompasses a miscellany of styles and sounds.

Mozart’s overture Così fan Tutte opens the concert with a flourish. By contrast Nielsen’s quirky Flute Concerto reflects the 1920s and is arguably the top concerto in the flute repertoire. Soloist Bridget Douglas, principal flute with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, is well known for her fabulous playing.

Beethoven’s easy listening 1st Symphony was written not long after ‘Così’- a sort of cross between an elegant Mozart symphony and Beethoven’s later more romantic works. Finally it’s back to the 20th century with Summer Evening, an evocative piece by Zoltán Kodály incorporating folk song themes from the composer’s native Hungary.

A perfect end to the community orchestra’s season and introduction to the summer ahead!
