Rotorua UkeBox Workshop Series 2018.

Rotorua Museum and Rotorua UkeBox present a fun ukulele workshop and concert with talented folk and blues legends Manitoba Hal and Paul Jonson.

Located at Te Rūnanga Tea House on Monday 12 November 2018, the event will begin with a workshop at 6pm, followed by concert at 8.30pm.

The workshop will be of interest to ukulele and guitar enthusiasts wanting to pick up a tip or two from experienced folk blues players. They will feature blues, boogie, ragtime and traditional folk songs to acquaint keen ukulele players with finger picking, alternative strumming, chording and tuning techniques that make these different styles of music.

At 8.30pm Manitoba Hal and Paul Jonson will entertain in an upbeat concert sure to have your toes tapping.

Manitoba Hal is a consummate blues man, having toured his home country of Canada extensively. Hal developed his blues sound when he lived in Winnipeg Manitoba. There he learnt to play raw, swamp, delta, Cajun and zydeco style blues.

Paul Jonson is a New Zealand native, who now upon retirement, travels the world to share ukulele magic at international festivals. He uses unique resonator ukuleles to express the true feeling of the original blues masters, and astound audiences with the versatility of this humble four string instrument.

Tickets for the workshop are $20 and the concert is $20. A special rate to attend both is $35 per person.

Attendees are invited to bring a finger-food plate to share between the workshop and concert.

This is the first of the 2018-2019 series of ukulele workshops by Rotorua UkeBox. The second workshop and concert will be held on 10-13 January 2019. More information will be out soon about this event.
