Biography:
Born into a musical household, pianist Anya Maksymova began her formal musical education at the age of six at the Donetsk Music School for gifted children in Ukraine. In New Zealand she learned from Peter Nagy, Judith Clark and Dr Gao Ping. Anya has completed Bachelor of Music with First-Class Honours with Professor Michael Endres at the University of Canterbury.

She has recently come back from Germany, where she finished Master of Music in Piano Performance in the Frankfurt Hochschule fur Musik, studying with renowned Russian pianist and teacher Lev Natochenny, himself a disciple of Lev Oborin. Further musical influences include masterclasses with Pascal Roge, Thomas Hecht, John Perry and Felix Gottlieb among others.

Anya was a regular soloist in the “Outstanding Young Musicians in Concert” series in Christchurch Music Centre. She is the winner of the Lewis Eady Charitable Trust Emerging Artist Series and is the 3rd prize winner at Kerikeri International Piano Competition in New Zealand.

Anya is the recipient of the George Russell Music Scholarship, Ruby Hay Scholarship, Pettman Special Programme Scholarship, Leslie Atkinson Memorial Prize in Music and the Dame Malvina Major Foundation scholarship.

Currently Anya is living and working in Christchurch as a performing pianist and a teacher at her studio at The Piano, the new music centre of Christchurch. Since 2016 she has been involved as a soloist with the CSO, Akaroa Summer School, Dame Malvina Major Foundation and Concert for Christchurch Foundation Trust. She also has been collaborating with the Très Cordes trio since 2017.
