Pureora Forest Park, Taumarunui

Ticket Information:

  • Free Admission

Pirongia Restoration Society run a pest control operation in the Okahukura valley of the northern Pureora forest. The aim is to fill 958 bait stations along designated bait lines with Pindone rat bait in order to reduce the numbers of rats in this area before the kokako breeding season begins.

Overnight accommodation (BYO food) is supplied for Friday 14th/Saturday 15th for those who can arrive on the Friday, and continue to assist on Sunday if needed. You may arrive on Saturday morning at the Pureora Lions Lodge off Waitaramoa road but please be there no later than 7am as there is still a 40 minute drive to the operations site.

Booking prior to Tuesday 11th for this activity would be much appreciated as volunteers are delegated specific bait lines to follow in keeping with their physical ability. The work is not suitable for anyone with a physical disability. All maps and safety equipment is supplied.

For more information please email - djune@xtra.co.nz. A second session will take place over the weekend of October 13/14th so here is another opportunity to assist with conservation.
