11am – 12:30pm - Get creative with Kate and make your very own 'Secrets of the Sea'. Little tiny box pictures.

12:30pm- 1pm - Artist talk – Diving In - Navigating the creative sea.

Lucan and The Whale Star:
This is the beginning of a story, the first draft.

I have been influenced by research around Sperm whales and the way they use sound.
Scientists studying them in the water say the clicks are so loud it heats up their bodies and they can’t stay in for too long.

I was also very moved by the 12 Sperm whales that recently washed up in South Taranaki.
I am passionate about our ocean and would love to see more marine sanc-tuaries in NZ.

Kate Parker - Biography
She is best known as a co-founder and director of renown physical theatre com-pany Red Leap Theatre 2008-15, creating internationally recognised works such as The Arrival (Shaun Tan), Paper Sky, SEA and most recently Dust Pilgrim.

She has won awards and accolades including an Arts Foundation of NZ award in 2010. During 2016 she was an artist in residence for Auckland Council where she created a light box exhibition entitled ‘Kowhai and the Giants’.

She is currently engaged as a guest director for the performing and screen arts graduating students at Unitec.

Kate studied devised theatre at The John Bolton Theatre school in Mel-bourne, using the forms of mime, clown, mask and movement.

Kate lives in West Auckland with her partner and their 3 children.
