The Physics Room

The 2018 Physics Room Fundraiser and Hewsonclad Launch.

This year's annual Physics Room fundraiser centres on the Ōtautahi launch of Hewsonclad: the modular painting product developed by artist Mike Hewson for the Ashburton iteration of the (Un)conditional exhibition series. Drawing on competing ideas of value Hewson has created a body of work that bridges contemporary art and interior design.

Working in a factory-like mode, Hewson hand-painted over 2000 individual tiles that can be joined together to create modestly-sized paintings for the lounge or epically-sized feature walls and murals.

Hewsonclad is currently available in three colour schemes based on iconic A.A Deans paintings: Tussock, Alpine, and Bush. Priced at a consumer-friendly $34.99 for a full-sized tile and $23.67 for a half-sized tile, these paintings are sure to fly off the wall!

In addition to the launch of Hewsonclad, artworks by Judy Darragh, Steve Carr, John Ward Knox, Ella Sutherland, and Kirstin Carlin will be available for purchase on the night.

The Physics Room is a non-profit charitable trust that commissions new work from New Zealand artists, writers, and other cultural producers. Proceeds from this fundraising event will go directly into our 2019 programme to fund the production of new work.

Thanks to Life in Vacant Spaces and The Arts Centre - Christchurch for their help in organising the use of the space.
