Bring your lunch and munch while you listen to Mim Ringer, Whangarei Museum’s longest serving volunteer, tell the background stories associated with historical photographs of Whangarei.

Seeking the background to the many photographs held in the Whangarei City Museum and Northland Regional Museum collections has been an obsession for Mim for nearly forty years.

Who had produced these images? When? Where had they come from - the leather and brass bound albums, portraits and scenes under glass in heavy wooden frames, hundreds of variously sized mounted and unmounted photos, post cards and snapshots!

Published information about Whangarei's photographic history is rarely mentioned in the few books available, yet it is there in newspapers, journals, magazines of earlier times, the photographs themselves and local memories.

No booking required.
