Bring your lunch and munch while you listen to Mim Ringer, Whangarei Museum’s longest serving volunteer, tell the story of the Loop Road from Hikurangi to Whangarei.

Whangarei was a township in 1860 then Whangarei County in 1876 changing to Whangarei Borough in 1896. Land outside of the area had only few roads and there was little access to the coast except by sea and the river.

Mim will talk about the Loop Road, including rivers and sea road, from Captain Cook's arrival in 1769, through early settlement to the establishment of the Whangarei Borough in 1896.

No booking required.
