Watch a screening of rare footage from New Zealand's involvement in World War 1. Presented with a specially prepared musical accompaniment and narration by renowned military historian, Dr Christopher Pugsley, the film shows our experience of the war on the home front and abroad.

The 70-minute programme begins with rare glimpses of life in pre-war New Zealand then follows through to include show NZEF soldiers in Egypt, Gallipoli, Europe and the Middle East and the work of the medical corps, along with footage of home life. The film finishes with the armistice in the UK and New Zealand, the return home of the Māori Contingent and the unveiling of the Messines Ridge memorial in Belgium.

The film is produced by Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, New Zealand’s audio-visual archive.
