A Bread Companion:
Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ai te iwi
With your basket and my basket the people will live.

To mark our participation in FESTA 2018, in collaboration with Phillipstown Community Hub, A Communal Loaf has developed ‘A Bread Companion’, which is centred on the making and sharing of food.

This work will be made visible through a series of creative workshops, kōrero, discussions and community meals that will be documented after the event in a book, produced collaboratively with the community.

‘A Bread Companion’ brings together creative activities, the preparing and sharing of food, communal meals and community experiences. It provides a place for the community’s creative input, experiences and stories to be heard. But most importantly it is offered as a taonga to others exploring ways to engage with people and communities through food.

FESTA 2018 is a public festival of architecture, design and food. Over the course of Labour Weekend workshops, talks, pop-up projects, family events, tours, live performance, artworks and more take place at various venues across the city.

Make sure you join us for our headline event, FEASTA!, a spectacular celebration of architecture, community and food, live for one night only on Saturday 20 October (rain date Sunday 21 October).
