Against the backdrop of the Kaipara Harbour, 1km trail wind through a secluded valley displaying the beauty of iconic New Zealand landscapes with more than 40 sculptures by emerging and established New Zealand and international artists who are passionate about expressing their ideas through sculpture, revealed at every turn.

The new sculptures relate, reflect and explore the natural beauty of this region of Auckland, the Kaipara Harbour, the flora and fauna, threats to the environment, the history of the land, colonisation and socio-political issues relating to this area, New Zealand and where our country fits in the global arena.

This unique Sculpture Trail set in a tranquil, rural garden oasis has now been open for 10 years, exhibiting ten completely different sculpture shows, each with more than 40 sculptures, annually over that time.

As a celebration of 10 years of curating this event, curator Sally Lush has selected 1 work that has resonated particularly with her for each of the ten years and asked the artist to recreate that work or create another work that evokes a similar feeling, creating a mini show of “Curators Picks”.

Artists featured in the “Curators Picks” are Peter Lange (2009), Trish Clarke (2010), Gaye Jurisich (2011), Jin Ling (2012), Ramon Robertson (2013), Faith Tavernor (2014), Audrey Boyle (2015), Janette Cervin (2016) and Jeff Thomson for (2017).

Artists with work featured in the main exhibition are Jeff Thomson, Trish Campbell, Fiona Henderson, Sonja van Kerkhoff, The Paper Mill, Faith Tavernor, David Carson, Kay Satherley, Community project facilitated by Art Centre Helensville and Kaipara Coast, Nicholas Mans, Ian Fewtrell, Rustic Twist, Cherrie James, Boud van den Bemd, Aaron McConchie, Hannah Kidd and Doug Kennedy.

Marlyne Jackson, Jan Simmons, Margaret Johnston, Vivienne Thomson, Jenny McLeod, Andrew Algie, Rebecca Rose, Gaye Jurisich, Darryl Fagence, Bruce Hubbard, John Mulholland, Jeff Thomson and Reg Laurie, Aaron Frater, Bev Goodwin, Karl Chilcott, Katherine Batchelor, Blair Fraser and Simon Gray.

Come and enjoy a relaxed art and garden experience with a stroll along a gentle 1km sculpture & garden trail that links the varied sculptures in a visual treat which take about 1 hour to leisurely walk. This tranquil and inspirational rural oasis, located at the award-winning Kaipara Coast Plant Centre is just 40 minutes drive from Auckland City.

Sculptures are for sale and the display changes completely every 12 months with the new exhibition opening in December each year to give you a fresh experience each time you come.

There is now the option of a more vigorous 30-minute adventure along the new Don's Conservation Track which has been carved using traditional tools of a shovel, wheelbarrow and rake by David and his father Don Bayly.

This track takes you on a winding journey through the native forest, along streams and waterfalls and focuses on a conservation message. The Conservation Track takes around an extra 30 minutes to walk, with a reasonable level of fitness recommended and is not suitable for pushchairs.

Last admissions 4pm. (Closed Christmas Day and Anzac Morning).

Groups and bus tours welcome. Group morning/afternoon teas and lunches available if booked in advance. Purchasing an annual pass is a great idea so you can revisit as the season's change and also use it as an inspirational walking fitness venue.

- Coffee stop in operation for light meals and coffee before of after your walk
