Hipango hosting meeting on End of Life Choice Bill.

Harete Hipango, MP for Whanganui, is hosting a public meeting on 29 May 2018 in Whanganui for the public to have the opportunity to express their views about the End of Life Choice Bill.

Ms Hipango will host Act Party MP David Seymour, writer of the bill and National Party MP Hon Maggie Barry ONZM and to give the people of Whanganui the opportunity to listen to and canvas their views with the presenters.

“The Bill is of huge interest to the public and that she wanted to bring key people to her Whanganui electorate,” Ms Hipango says.

“Maggie Barry ONZM will also present and speak to her Palliative Care Bill currently in the ballot which is about enshrining every New Zealanders right wherever they live to have access to world class Palliative Care.

“The Palliative Care Bill addresses many of the concerns people have about dying with dignity and without pain. Maggie Barry will use this opportunity to explain the view of a number of Hospice, palliative care and medical professionals in terms of euthanasia and assisted suicide as proposed in David Seymour’s Bill.

“According to Maggie more than three quarters of the submitters are opposed to the bill because of the complete lack of protections and legal safeguards to protect vulnerable New Zealanders including the disabled, elderly and mentally unwell.

“Act MP David Seymour is looking forward to coming to Whanganui and hearing local’s views and personal stories in person and discussing the ins and outs of the Bill. He said that there have been over 36,000 New Zealanders writing in to make a submission on the Bill including many from Whanganui.

“The public meeting will provide information about the End of Life Choice Bill and what the process is from here.

“Mark Dawson, Editor of the Whanganui Chronicle will facilitate the public meeting. There will be high level of impassioned interest and welcomes our Whanganui and wider electorate public participation.”

The meeting will be held at The Whanganui Central Baptist Church, 285 Wickseed Street Whanganui on Tuesday 29th May 2018 5:30 to 7:30pm.
