The dazzling duo of violinist Emily Sun from Australia and pianist Gamal Khamis from the UK are performing around NZ as part of the 2018 national tour organised by the Royal Over-Seas League. We are thrilled to be welcoming them to Whittaker's for the third event of our Spring Concert Season.

"The highlight of the evening was pianist Gamal Khamis, whose sensitivity and imagination shone out of his three performances." - Financial Times

Australian violinist Emily Sun is rapidly gaining international recognition as an emerging soloist. She was awarded the Gold Medal of the 2016 Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition UK, the first violinist to win the award since 1981. In this series of concerts she will be joined by pianist Gamal Khamis who, with a fist full of formidable awards and collaborations to his name, is surely one of the UK's rising stars.

Together they will share a sumptuous programme of Romantic and virtuosic music, including works by Fauré, Grieg and Schubert. A feature of the evening will be the work Tōrua, written by Arts Foundation New Zealand Icon Gillian Whitehead - a work commissioned by none other than world-renowned American violinist Hilary Hahn.

As well as giving concerts, Emily and Gamal are in Aotearoa to adjudicate the 2018 Pettman ROSL Arts Chamber Music Scholarship.

The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSLNZ) is a self-funded and non-profit Commonwealth organisation committed to supporting New Zealand musicians and artists at the onset of their careers through a programme of scholarships and performance opportunities.

Be sure to book your seats for this exciting musical event. Please note that while our concerts are usually on Sundays, this one is on a Friday.
