Naturally antibacterial household linens re-creation of old knowledge.

Fashion is our social skin, it manifests our market trends as well as our beliefs.
Natural dyes make up only 1% in the fashion industry, due to process. Eco-dyed natural antibacterial treatments for your home are safe for kids, pregnant women and pets and our beautiful New Zealand!

Perfuming was traditionally a typical finishing step for dyeing processes. Silk dyed black in the 18th century needed ‘sweetening’ with a final bath of soap and anise, while woollen cloth had to be washed with linseed and soap and lavender boiled with weld, the plant universally used for yellow dyes. Harris Tweed wools once wet smell of mosses and smoke.

My work is inspired by personal experiences from my childhood; mushroom and berry picking in the forest, the smells of flowers from my grandmother’s front garden, and also folk stories and traditions about herb harvesting.

We will pick the leaves and prints with them, mixing in berries and garden clippings. The whole process is very meditative and completely magical because you never know exactly what prints will come from the dye bath. It is like unwrapping a gift every time I open the dye pot.

As a maker and architect, I’m inspired by traditional methods and old ingredients, but I am very much about making something for a modern man, looking to the future and preserving knowledge.
Te Reo sums it in the word - Kaitiakitanga. Everything we do in life has to be done sustainably, casting thought for the future.

What we will make: size vary medium size cushion cover plus a couple of food wax wraps.

What we will learn: how to extract organic colours from fallen leaves and enjoy the permanent impressions on natural fibre.

Materials: everything provided.

Meet at the cafe at Spencer Holiday Park.
The reception is limited out that way, so do make sure you pre-load the location map before you set off. My cell - 0212031414
