Take a 30 minute scenic flight this summer in Air Chathams original Douglas DC-3 SkylinerZK-AWP based at the Classic Flyers Museum in Tauranga.
It's pretty hard to beat old fashioned "luxury" flying over the Bay of Plenty and Waikato. Named "Powhaitere", the DC3 is the only surviving RNZAF World War II veteran aircraft still operating today in frontline service.
Built for the days when air travel was a luxury and all about comfort, the interior is roomy with large “skyliner” windows. This aircraft is a true blue Kiwi, having served with the RNZAF, National Airways Corp (NAC) and has also been used for aerial top-dressing in New Zealand.
A fabulous Xmas gift or end of year celebration, there are 3 flights per day (11:45am, 1:00pm and 2:15pm) dependent on weather and passenger bookings. A family discount of 10% is available for 2 adults (2 children).
Flights are scheduled most Saturdays and Sundays but it's important to book as there are only 28 passenger seats per flight.
