Clarks Mill

Producing flour from 1867 Clark's Mill is a 19th Century engineering marvel.

Come and explore the four floors of original roller milling machinery and see, hear and feel it roar into action.

Clarks Mill is a rare example of an originally water powered flour mill with original machinery intact and operating. Stepping inside the four-storey building you can explore the labyrinth of machinery and follow a grain of wheat from its arrival through milling and refining to its departure as the fine Snow Wreath flour originally made here.

When the machinery operates you can imagine what it must have been like to work in the mill in days gone by.

On this special operating day you can tour the mill and see the machinery operating. The mill will be open between 12pm-4pm and will be operating at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. We recommend you arrive to tour the mill before it operates so you can better appreciate what all the machinery is doing.

Other activities on the day will include a chance to see the vintage farm vehicles looked after by the North Otago Vintage Machinery Club - there will some working vintage machinery on show.

The original Miller's House and the old social club Smokey Joes will be open with exhibitions, music and afternoon teas. A horse and carriage will be offering rides (gold coin donation) and there will be activities for children with a Scottish flavour.

Please note this is a cash only event. Heritage New Zealand Members with their membership card have free admission. Sorry - but no dogs permitted.
