As a young believer, Penny knows that being a Christian is complicated. Between creationists, homophobes, idiots, control freaks, militant atheists, street evangelists, power, sex, and Harry Potter, is there any room left for faith? Join us as Penny weighs the pros and cons of Christian culture. Is it worth the trouble? Is there anything left in Christianity? A hilarious and biting satire of Christian culture, Christian is a play about the difficulty of belonging in a world of spiritual pluralities.

Christian comes at a time where New Zealand Christianity is reassessing itself. Both pro- and anti-gay marriage factions within the church agree that the 2013 gay marriage referendum marked a shift in the role of religion in society. The increasing acceptance of the gay community has also led some Christians to acknowledge their role in the damages caused to the gay community. This play continues the self-examination of Christianity, questioning the shape of the faith in modern society.

Written and directed by James Tregonning, Christian is brought to you by Christians, non-Christians, ex-Christians, pre-Christians, and probably a Buddhist or something.

Intended for mature audiences - contains adult themes and sexually explicit language, discussion of sexual assault and homophobia.
