This is a gentle beginner friendly Yoga class with a somatic flavour. Classes combine the mindful movements and breath awareness of yoga with the small, slow movements and body sensing of somatics.

Somatics is a movement therapy to re-educate the way the brain senses and moves the muscles. The term somatic means embodied or of the body. Thomas Hanna developed somatics, influenced by the work of Moshe Feldenkrais and Hans Selye.

Somatics is about mind-body integration and neuromuscular reprogramming. Our muscles can become restricted, tight or tense from injury, emotional stress, trauma or habitual patterns in the body. Small, slow, gentle movements, along with body sensing and visualisation are used to re-educate the brain so that it can relax and build new more functional movement patterns.

All bodies and fitness levels warmly welcomed. Please bring something warm for relaxation and wear comfy clothes you can move in. Mats available.
