The Buddhist path begins with the recognition of dissatisfaction, it is not simply the suffering of aging, ill health or death but this vague sensation of tension, depression, anxiety and sheer frustration that seems to underlie most of our waking moments and remains as the undercurrent of our emotional experiences.

The negative forms of emotions that we experience have a way of beating us down. After a while we become exhausted and wearied under the weight of our emotional upheavals.

However the good news is that this is where the journey begins.

Khenpo Chopal was born in East Tibet in 1971, becoming a monk at the age of 14. He studied at Drikung Thil Monastery, the first and main Drikung Kagyu Monastery founded in Tibet in 1179 by Kyopa Jigten Sumgön. He received collective vows from his main teacher, Pachung Rinpoche and the great Abbott & Retreat Master, Tenzin Nyima Rinpoche.

For many years, Khenpo has received comprehensive teachings in Buddha Dharma. He studied philosophy and debate, and completed the solitary retreat of The Five-fold Profound Path of Mahamudrā.

Following his many years of practice, he was awarded the title of Khenpo and received designation as an extraordinary Chant Master.

Currently, Khenpo Chopal resides alternately in the U.S. and Nepal, guiding meditation retreats in several Dharma centres in America and teaching Drikung lineage traditional rituals, chanting and philosophy in Drikung Rinchenling Monastery in Nepal.
