Sylvie McLean is offering a new weekly class in Kaiapoi from February 2017 onwards. This is an authentic Hatha Yoga class based on the principles taught by Krishnamacharya - the father of modern yoga. Sylvie's most influential teacher is Mark Whitwell from the Heart of Yoga.
The pace of this class is slow and breath focussed. The class is designed to suit all life stages and is adaptable to most physical abilities. "If you can breathe, you can do yoga.."
In a typical 90 minute class, for about the first 60 minutes, the students will be guided through a classical sequence of postures including gentle vinyasas. Following the principles of authentic Hatha yoga, the breath is used as a guideline.
The pacing and challenges will be adapted to the experience and fitness level of the group taught. This part of the session will end with slower restorative poses and a brief rest phase.
For about the final 20 minutes, the students will often be given a guided Yoga Nidra for facilitating deep relaxation and to give the opportunity for reflection and healing. Anyone is welcome including beginners. Students will be encouraged to start their own personal home practice as part of this class.
Students may enrol for a term or come casually. Please arrive 15 minutes before class to enrol and prepare. What to bring: a yoga mat and a blanket. Please wear comfortable loose fitting clothing.
