As part of SeniorNet's series of general talks on the use of technology in the community, this will be a talk about Patient Portals. Some GP practices have a service that gives patients of that practice the ability to help manage their health needs at any time.

It can give them access to and maintain their medical records, book appointments, request repeat prescriptions and view latest lab results. It can allow patients to connect with the doctors and nurses online to enhance practice efficiency and effectiveness.

Before coming to this talk contact your practice to see if they have this service and what is the name of that service. This talk will be 1-2 hours depending on the interest of the audience.

Note from Ministry of Health: Patient portals are secure online sites, provided by GPs, where patients can access their health information and interact with their general practice.

As of June 2017, more than 400,000 Kiwis were using patient portals and they were offered in nearly 50 percent of general practices (471 in total) around the country.
