Virtue Health Care Education along with Matua Raki present 'Understanding Addictions' community education series.

The workshops are open to everyone in the community and are free to attend. We are hoping that people come along who are interested in learning about addictions, are either dealing with addictions personally or someone close to them i.e family or friends or are frontline staff who may be working with people experiencing addictions.

Workshops will be held at the Legacy Centre on Thursday nights between 7-9pm starting the 11th May, running for a month finishing on the 1st June.

The topics we will be covering are:
- Wk1 - Understanding Addiction
- Understanding what is addiction
- The different types of addictions - substance/non-substance abuse
- How to identify addictions - introduce screening tools

Wk2 - The Impacts:
- How addictions affect the person
- How addiction impacts on family/supports
- How addiction impacts on society

Wk3 - Creating Change:
- How to create/motivate change
- How to coordinate meaningful interventions
- Where to go to for help and when

Wk4 - Living Well:
- How to support the recovery process
- How to look after yourself and your whanau
- Building resilience
