What is a leap second and what does it mean for our social, cultural and spiritual understanding of time? And why does it matter?

Join young science communicator John Kerr as he explores these issues and more.

John Kerr is a Wellington-based writer and science communicator with a diverse background in research, academic publishing and media. He is currently undertaking doctoral research at Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Psychology, trying to figure out why people argue over scientific ‘facts’.

A public consultation about leap seconds in the UK a couple of years ago unearthed some really fascinating views from the public - stuff that scientists don’t really think about but is crucially important to other people. It also (very loosely) related to John’s current research on the public understanding of science.

Price: Included in general admission.
