With the coming of the Hubble Space Telescope and new technology, things have changed when looking at planet formation.

Once our solar system was thought to represent a typical planetary system, but no-one knew for certain if planetary systems were rare or common in the Universe.

With new technology, these notions changed. Soon it was realised that planetary systems were common and part of the normal processes in star formation. What came as a surprise was the realisation that our solar system was far from typical.

Frank Andrews from the Wellington Astronomical Society will talk about these new findings and how they might affect the possibility of finding life in the Universe.

Price: Included in general admission
