The Moreton Bay Symphony Orchestra, based in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane is touring the South Island of New Zealand from the 25th of June until the 5th of July.

As part of this tour, MBSO will perform a selection of classical and contemporary works in Christchurch, Rolleston, Twizel, Timaru, Dunedin and Queenstown.

The orchestra will be performing in Timaru on the 1st of July at the Theatre Royal, Timaru.
In this concert, we will be joining forces with Alpine Energy Timaru Brass to perform Holst’s Mars and Sibelius’ Finlandia.

The president of the orchestra, Eve Brown, is a New Zealander and learnt violin in Timaru and that’s why we're coming back to perform there - she will be playing violin.

Moreton Bay Symphony Orchestra Inc. (MBSO) is a friendly community orchestra located in Clontarf, Moreton Bay, Queensland (Australia) that plays a selection of classical and contemporary music.

MBSO is made up of three main ensembles:
- MBSO (open to all players of all ages; Grade 5 standard and above)
- The MBSO Youth Symphony (an auditioned orchestra for players up to the age of 25 years; Grade 4 standard and above)
- The MBSO Junior Strings (an auditioned string ensemble for primary and early secondary string players, up to the age of 15 years; Grades 1 – 3)

MBSO is under the professional musical direction of Bronwyn Gibbs and has membership of all ages and from all walks of life including music educators, working professionals, advanced students, keen amateurs and retirees.

MBSO is a non-profit community orchestra, which means that members voluntarily give their time and musical expertise to play music - both for their own enjoyment and for the local community. The orchestra funds itself through members' contributions and performances.

MBSO, the MBSO Youth Symphony and the MBSO Junior Strings perform regularly throughout the year, presenting five concerts and performing at two or three other community events.
