Michael Parekowhai’s The Lighthouse
Public opening

With guest performances by Anika Moa and Anna Coddington, Marlon Williams with Dave Khan, Lawrence Arabia and members of The Phoenix Foundation.

The highly anticipated public opening of The Lighthouse by Michael Parekowhai will be held on Queens Wharf on Saturday 11 February, from 7pm.

The fences will come down and Aucklanders will be able to see the completed artwork up close for the first time. The opening celebration is timed to coincide with dusk and sunset to offer people the opportunity to see The Lighthouse against the changing night sky.

The public opening will include guest performances by Anika Moa and Anna Coddington, Marlon Williams with Dave Khan, Lawrence Arabia and members of The Phoenix Foundation.

All are welcome to this free event, where the public will be guided around the outside of the artwork and hosts will be available to answer questions.

The Lighthouse is a new public artwork by New Zealand artist Michael Parekowhai located on the Auckland waterfront. As a gift to the city, Barfoot & Thompson funded the commission of the artwork. Its exterior is in the form of a 1:1 scale 1950s family home and the interior artwork features an installation of light. The public can explore the work by looking in windows, doors and climbing the staircase.
