'The Idyll of the White Lotus' by Mabel Collins is a fascinating book that describes the journey of a youth in the temples of ancient Egypt.

It is the tragedy of the Soul were attracted by Desire, it soon stoops to error. Brought to its senses by suffering, it turns for help to the redeeming Spirit within, finally shedding a blessing on mankind in the climax of the story.

We begin with a brief look at the life of author Mabel Collins, then delve into the key events of the story. Finally, we explore the symbolic meaning of the characters and events as they relate to theosophical concepts and understandings.

Richard Sell has been a member of the Theosophical Society for many years. He is currently the President of HPB Lodge of the Theosophical Society in Auckland and he is chair of the Governance Board for the National Society. Richard was brought up in Theosophical family and was conversant with theosophical teachings and concepts from a young age.

He participates in presenting a study programme at his branch in Auckland and he has spoken at various Theosophical branches and National Conventions in NZ. He has presented talks in Indonesia and at the 2014 International Convention in Adyar, India.

This event is hosted by the New Plymouth Branch and is sponsored by the Theosophical Society in New Zealand.
