Presented by students of the New Zealand School of Music.

Janáček’s extraordinary opera, a reflection on the cycle of life and death, turned convention on its head and created music of heart-stopping beauty. The two worlds of the opera – the human and the animal – are sharply differentiated and it is the contemporary intersection of these two worlds that is explored by the director, Jon Hunter. The Vixen bridges the industrial and natural worlds, with the other animals somehow reminiscent of the ‘invisibles’ at the fringes of society – the factory workers, cleaners, homeless and street kids.

Don’t miss this chance to see and hear some of the country’s finest upcoming singing and orchestral talent in a boutique production of an extraordinary modern opera. Sung in English, the opera is conducted by Kenneth Young.
