Thinking about what doctors get up to in their spare time, performing stand-up comedy may not be the first thing that comes to people’s minds. But that’s exactly what Pahiatua doctor Chris Ingham does.

The father of two has been interested in comedy since his university days and even took part in Jono and Ben’s New Zealand’s Funniest Dad Competition in 2015, winning a dozen beers and some Dad’s Pies for finishing third. But early in 2017, Chris started attending comedy workshops in Palmerston North and made his on-stage debut in March. He’s been hooked ever since and he’s looking forward to performing in Pahiatua.

“The whole town is buzzing, and by that I mean my colleagues are excited”, says Chris.

Headlining the show will be 2017 Billy T award nominee Li’i Alaimoana from Wellington. He’s recently up and down New Zealand as part of the Six Feet Over Comedy Tour and earned rave reviews for his Comedy Festival show Minority Rapport. Li’i is a comedic Hurricane and his fusion of music and jokes will have the audience in stitches.

Joining Chris and Li’i on the bill is Mike Osborne and Ben ‘Tito’ Caldwell. From Carterton, Mike's friends suffer from him being late for everything. For the general public that turned out to be a good thing as he arrived rather late to stand-up comedy. Now that he's doing it after years of hankering to get up there, he wonders if he should have just settled for a life of bitterness and regret.

In the space of four years, Tito went from a university slacker to a married father of five children. His unique family dynamic has provided him with plenty of entertaining stories and observations that other parents will empathize with. Those without kids, prepare to be educated, enlightened and terrified.

MC for the evening is Dylan Stewart, who has been doing comedy for five years in both Auckland and Wellington, and once won "Top Comedian of the Universe" in an award ceremony he made up while stuck in traffic one day. He also won "greatest lover of all time" that night, however that award was withdrawn when his wife wrote a letter to the judges.

Earlybird tickets are $15 and are available online from Eventfinder or pop into Tararua Club and grab them from there. Door sales on the night are $20.
