Through our arts we express our language, culture, and history.

Experience a day of Ngāti Toa creativity at the Artists’ Pā - weaving, carving, tā moko (Māori tattooing), taonga puoro (Māori music instruments), kai Māori (Māori food), painting, and more.

This celebration of creative talent marks the end of the exhibition Whiti Te Rā! The story of Ngāti Toa Rangatira, and the tribe’s time as iwi in residence at Te Papa.

See Ngāti Toa artists in action, and kōrero (talk) with them about their mahi (work).

Artists include:
- Tā moko artist Taryn Beri
- Weavers Kohai Grace and Nina Paaka
- Taonga puoro (Māori instrument) musicians Tamihana Katene and Jerome Kavanagh
- Painters and illustrators Brian Gunson and Miriama Grace-Smith
- Music composers Ranea Aperahama and Wairere Ropata.

You can also sample and learn about kai Māori and rongoā Māori (Māori medicines).
