Central Motor Speedway, Sandflat Rd, Cromwell

All Ages

Looking for holiday excitement for all the family? That's easy! Wherever you live or are holidaying in Central Otago/Southern Lakes, on Saturday, Dec 30 get yourselves along to Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway (aka Cromwell Speedway) for a trifecta of clay-scorching, flame-belching big sideways action.

Racing starts at 5:30pm but we do recommend getting along earlier to find a great viewing spot from your vehicle on on the grass bank overlooking the track. Gates open at 3.30pm. Remember we have food concessions and you can rely on Mr Whippy being there.

- $90,000 2017/18 Hydraulink Sprintcar War of the Wings (WOW) Round 5... These open wheel 750 - 900 horsepower 'winged demons' are speedway's fastest and most powerful class.

Seven-series WOW is hugely popular and hotly contested by the South Island's best and bravest drivers including former 1NZ 27-year-old Jamie Duff (19t). Another of the sprintcar young guns to watch is 23-year-old Sam O'Callaghan (49t), nephew of multi-time WOW winner Jason Scott (88t). Cromwell contracted driver Daniel Anderson (44t) has been in scintillating form this season and loves the fast banked track at Heavy Trax Hire Central Motor Speedway.

- Christmas Champs... The pace will be fast and furious among drivers competing for top honours. Classes include super saloons, saloons, six shooters and youth ministocks.

- Central Otago Productions Champs(Day 1)... Once cars like Subaru Impreza, Honda Preludes and other popular makes have ended their roadworthy lives, some go on to be fitted with a roll cage and enthusiastically raced by men and women on Central Motor Speedway in the Production class. These are surprisingly quick and with big fields, fun to watch.
