New Zealand's rising operatic stars in a one-off Opera experience.

The audience this year will be treated to a feast of music performed by some of our finest young opera singers. Four of the singers – Natasha Wilson, Manase Latu, Ipu Laga’aia and Samson Setu are participants in the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Singer Development Programme and have been chosen because they are recognised as having the potential for major careers on world opera stages.

Kathryn Harries, Director National Opera Studio, London, and International Director of the Kiri Programme writes of Natasha – “She is an exciting and naturally compelling performer who possesses class and charisma”; of Manase – “He has an extraordinary gift for phrasing, language and communication. Add to this his beautiful voice and you have the complete package”; of Ipu – “The sound of his voice reminded me of the great tenors, in particular, the young Pavarotti” and of Samson – “He has a world-class bass baritone voice. There is something in the quality of sound that calls to mind the operatic greats”.

The three men are also part of an outstanding vocal group ‘The Shades’ and for this they are joined by the fine young baritone – Mataka Vuni. They bring a distinctive blend of Polynesian fun and energy coupled to superb singing. Natasha has worked with The Shades in the past and we have the benefit of her collaboration with them for this concert.
