We are a group of women, dancers, fundraising for Tauranga Women Refuge on the 13th of May which is World Belly Dance Day.

We will be dancing between 5 to 10 minutes a group choreography, while collecting donations for Tauranga Moana women refuge. We celebrate World Bellydance Day (13th of may) and, at the same time, we are doing something fun that gives back to the community.

Shimmy Mob Bop is made by dancers from Tauranga, Whakatane and other parts of the Bay of Plenty. We are dancing in Tauranga on the water front, near the New Tidal Steps and Pontoon at about 2:15pm. At 2:30, we will be dancing at the Dance O’Mat, stage, on the Strand, opposite Phoenix and Macao restaurants. The Shimmy Mob is a global event which takes place every year, all over the world. Women and girls come together and perform a kind of belly dance flash mob in various towns across the world and monies raised are donated to a local women's refuge centre of a charity which supports women and children in crisis. We have nominated Tauranga Women Refuge charity from money raised in Tauranga. Here is a link for your info: http://www.shimmymob.com/about/how_it_works/

For years, dancers all over the world have been trying to elevate belly dance to a higher standard. The general public still knows little about belly dance as an art form. World Bellydance Day aims to change that.
